Local Pols To Hole Press Conference On Recent Bus Crash

    State Assemblymember Rom Kim (D-Flushing, Murray Hill), State Senator Toby Ann Stavisky (D-Flushing), and other local electeds today will announce new legislation to improve accountability for private bus operators in the city.

    They will address the impact of a recent bus crash that left three dead and over a dozen injured, and how the new bill will protect riders in the future. They will also be joined by one of the victims of the crash.

    The press conference will take place at 3:30pm on the southeast corner of Main Street and Northern Boulevard. However, In the case of rain, which is very likely today, the event will be held in Stavisky’s office at 142-29 37th Ave #1.

    Senator Avella To Announce New Housing Alliance

    State Senator Tony Avella (D-College Point, Bayside) will be joined by State Assemblymember David Weprin (D-Richmond Hill and Jamaica Estates) and Bay Terrace resident Phil Konigsberg to announce the dawning of the new Bayside Smokefree Housing Alliance (BSHA).

    The announcement will be made today at 11am at Avella’s District Office, 38-50 Bell Boulevard, Bayside.

    BSHA’s objective is to serve as a catalyst in making the over 30 apartment buildings in Bayside and Bay Terrace smoke-free properties.

    It will emulate the North Shore Towers, the largest smoke-free residential building complex in New York, and will aim to inform and educate landlords and property managers of the health and fire safety reasons to become a smoke-free facility.

    Koo To Announce A Community Forum To Discuss New Recycling Regulations

    City Councilmember Peter Koo (D-Downtown Flushing, Murray Hill) will join the Greater Flushing Chamber of Commerce to announce a community forum to educate business owners about recent changes in sanitation recycling regulations.

    As of August 1, the city began enforcing regulations requiring all businesses to recycle meat, glass, plastic, beverage cartons, paper, cardboard, and other items.

    The announcement takes place today at 2:30pm at Koo’s office, 135-27 38th Ave., Suite 388.
