Peralta Supports DREAM Act Amendment

State Senator Jose Peralta

State Sen. Jose Peralta (D-Corona, East Elmhurst, Elmhurst, Jackson Heights, Woodside) said this weekend he was proud to sponsor the DREAM Act as an amendment to the budget bill.

The amendment would have eliminated potential obstacles  to obtaining state financial aid and extend opportunities for undocumented students to attend higher education institutions.

“I stood up today for New York’s DREAMers who deserve equality in access to higher education funding by attaching the DREAM Act as an amendment to a budget bill. This would have included the $27 million for the Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) that we hoped to set aside for students who want nothing more than to attend college with their peers. This amounts to about 87 cents annually for the average taxpayer,” said Peralta.

“These students’ dreams should not be cruelly denied. I’m proud that my colleagues in the Independent Democratic Conference stood up for DREAMers today, and I thank all 27 members who voted with me in favor of this measure,” he added.

Addabbo Mobile Office Hours Come To Maspeth

Senator Joseph Addabbo Jr.

State Sen. Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr. (D-Kew Gardens, Kew Gardens Hills, Forest Hills, Rego Park, Elmhurst, Woodside, Middle Village, Maspeth, Glendale, Ridgewood, Ozone Park, South Ozone Park, Richmond Hill, Woodhaven, Howard Beach, Hamilton Beach, Broad Channel, the Rockaways) invites his constituents to his Mobile Office Hours in Maspeth this April.

Residents are encouraged to come speak to their senator about any issues they may be facing, or to bring a community issue to his attention. Addabbo holds his Mobile Office Hours at libraries throughout his district to give constituents who do not have the time make it to one of his three district offices during normal business hours.

“I have always held the belief that elected officials should make themselves available to members of their district to personally interact with them. To me, it is the best way to truly find out what is going on in the communities,” Addabbo said. “Listening to constituents gives me the opportunity to hear what the people want and what they think their community needs. I look forward to another successful round of Mobile Office Hours this year throughout my district, and I hope to see many people there.”

As part of his ongoing commitment to personally engage with the people of his district and personally assist as many people as possible, Addabbo will hold his Maspeth mobile hours from 5:30 to 7  p.m., Thursday, April 12 at Maspeth Library, located at 69-70 Grand Avenue.

Addabbo will be hosting Mobile Office Hours at several libraries within his district. For more information on when and where these will take place, contact Addabbo’s Howard Beach Office at 718-738-1111.
