Ulrich To Announce New Beautification Project in Broad Channel
City Council member Eric Ulrich (R-Belle Harbor, Breezy Point, Broad Channel, Hamilton Beach, Howard Beach, Lindenwood, Neponsit, Ozone Park, Rockaway Beach, Rockaway Park, South Ozone Park, Woodhaven) in partnership with Queens Botanical Garden,will announce a new beautification project in Broad Channel Friday.
The $30,000 project, which was funded by Ulrich, will place planters along Cross Bay Boulevard, focusing on the entrance into Broad Channel at 20th Road.
The event is slated for 11 a.m., Friday, Sept. 14, at the intersection of Cross Bay Blvd and 20th Road in Broad Channel.
Nolan Pens Letter To DOE To Improve School Bus Service
Assembly member Catherine Nolan (D-Sunnyside, Ridgewood, Astoria, Woodside, Long Island City, Maspeth, Queensbridge, Ravenswood, Dutch Kills and Blissville) denounced the ‘Grandpa Bus Company’ yesterday for their school bus transportation issues.
In a letter to Schools Chancellor Richard Carranza, Nolan called out the local school bus service for their lack of adequate transportation for students this school year. Nolan is hoping to improve service for students in District 30 in the coming weeks, as the academic year progresses into Winter.
“I have received several complaints from parents of local elementary school parents in regard to the practices of the “Grandpa Bus Company serving District 30. In the enclosed correspondence, these parents detail several allegations, including that in this first week of school, the buses have skipped stops, have been excessively late arriving at schools in the morning, and failed to arrive at schools to return students home after dismissal,” read Nolan’s letter.
“As you can imagine, this is an untenable situation in which to place the students, parents, and residents of our communities. I would ask that this company be reviewed immediately by the Department.I take these concerns very seriously, as the safety of our students must be of the highest priority, and I respectfully request a coordinated response from your office as to your plan to rectify this situation. I look forward to your response,” concluded the letter.
Gillibrand Denounces Anti-Semitic Mailer Attacking Nixon on Jewish Issues
Rep. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) denounced yesterday an anti-semitic mailer aimed at attacking New York State Governor candidate Cynthia Nixon for her views on Jewish issues.
Last week, a New York State Democratic Party mailer surfaced that ripped Nixon as condoning anti-Semitism. The mailer appeared to be part of the $136,000 campaign by the party to boost Cuomo in today’s primary, even though Cuomo went onto deny any knowledge of the literature.
A Democratic Party source said the mailer was sent to 7,000 targeted households, likely areas where ultra-orthodox Jews reside.
“Senator Gillibrand thinks the mailer is disgraceful and there’s no excuse for it.” Gillibrand spokesman Glen Caplin told the Daily News.
