Queens Borough President Melinda Katz

Queens Borough President Melinda Katz (D) this week hosted a well attended candlelight vigil in front of Queens Borough Hall in memory of those who died in two horrific national hate crime shootings that took place recently.

The vigil included a reading of the names of the two African American victims killed in the October 24 racially motivated shooting at a supermarket in Jeffersontown, Kentucky. It also did a reading of the names of the 11 victims killed in the October 27 shooting at the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh.

About 300 people attended the vigil, including Assemblymembers Ed Braunstein and Alicia Hyndman and Councilmembers I. Daneek Miller and Donovan Richards.

Sanders to Host “How to Do Business with the DOE” Event

State Sen. James Sanders Jr.

State Sen. James Sanders Jr. (D-Rochdale Village, Far Rockaway) on Monday will bring representatives from the city’s Department of Education to Southeast Queens so entrepreneurs can get an understanding on how to do business with the DOE.

The event is from 6:30-8:30 p.m., Monday, Nov. 5 at Pa-Nash, 144-14 243rd Street in Rosedale. You must RSVP to attend by calling Sanders’ Office at 718-523-3069.
