Katz Holds Well Attended Vigil For Recent Black & Jewish National Shootings

Queens Borough President Melinda Katz (D) this week hosted a well attended candlelight vigil in front of Queens Borough Hall in memory of those who died in two horrific national hate crime shootings that took place recently.

The vigil included a reading of the names of the two African American victims killed in the October 24 racially motivated shooting at a supermarket in Jeffersontown, Kentucky. It also did a reading of the names of the 11 victims killed in the October 27 shooting at the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh.

About 300 people attended the vigil, including Assemblymembers Ed Braunstein and Alicia Hyndman and Councilmembers I. Daneek Miller and Donovan Richards.


CM Miller Demands Safe & Secure Downtown Jamaica

City Council Member I. Daneek Miller (D-Cambria Heights, Hollis, Jamaica, St. Albans, Queens Village, Springfield Gardens) today will join with the Greater Jamaica Development Corporation, King of Kings Foundation and LIFE Camp, Inc. in demanding for a safer and more secure Downtown Jamaica.

Specifically, Miller will denounce the Parsons Boulevard and Archer Avenue shooting that marred Halloween festivities, and demand the NYPD prioritize the public safety and quality-of-life needs of the bustling commercial corridor.

The event is slated for 6 p.m., today, Nov. 2 at the Parsons Boulevard and Archer Avenue Pedestrian Plaza in Jamaica.


Sanders to Host “How to Do Business with the DOE” Event

State Sen. James Sanders Jr. (D-Rochdale Village, Far Rockaway) on Monday will bring representatives from the city’s Department of Education to Southeast Queens so entrepreneurs can get an understanding on how to do business with the DOE.

The DOE contracts with a vast array of vendors to purchase the goods and services necessary to ensure that students have all they need in order to receive the quality education they deserve.

Come learn how small businesses and Minority and Women-Owned Business Enterprises (MWBE) firms can build outstanding business relationships with the DOE while identifying subcontracting opportunities.
