Queens County Young Democrats (QCYD) has announced, effective immediately, its new leadership with Breeana Mulligan as President and Antonio Alfonso as Executive Vice President.

Dori Ann Pliska, who filled the role of President earlier this year, resigned at QCYD’s holiday party last week. Mulligan is now the third woman to serve as President in the organization’s history.

“I am honored and humbled to be named President of the Queens County Young Democrats (QCYD). I am very excited to lead an organization full of smart, hardworking and genuinely warm and kind individuals. Along with our newly appointed Executive Vice President, Antonio Alfonso, I look forward to meeting and hearing from active young Democrats from all over the borough,” said Mulligan.

“I thank Dori Ann Pliska for her leadership, her guidance and most of all, for being a great friend,” she added.

The official youth arm of the Queens County Democratic Party, QCYD focuses on political mobilization, voter and issue education and professional development for members.

This year, QCYD was at the forefront of several successful Democratic campaigns across the city, recruiting over 40 volunteers to get out the vote by knocking over 2,500 doors and reaching 600 voters in races for Congressman Tom Suozzi, State Senator Shelley Mayer, State Senator Joseph Addabbo, State Senator-elect John Liu, State Senator-elect Jessica Ramos, State Senator-elect Andrew Gounardes, Assemblyman Edward Braunstein and Assemblywoman Stacey Pheffer-Amato.

Additionally, QCYD’s issue-driven panels have gained borough-wide acclaim and have featured an array of elected officials, policy experts, labor leaders and issue advocates.

“Having been named Executive Vice President of the Queens County Young Democrats (QCYD) is both an honor and a blessing. Over the past few years, I’ve had the privilege to work alongside incredible individuals, each committed to strengthening the bonds between progressive young people throughout Queens,” said Alfonso.

“Our future looks even brighter with President Breeana Mulligan. I stand on the shoulders of past Presidents, like Dori Pliska, who have done immense work to bring QCYD to new heights,” he added.
