Ramos Launches Community Pulse Check

State Sen. Jessica Ramos

State Sen. Jessica Ramos (D-Corona, East Elmhurst, Elmhurst, Jackson Heights, parts of Astoria, Woodside) today will launch the Community Pulse Check Project, a first-ever project to understand the necessities of neighbors in District 13.

The project will consist of door-knocking and canvassing to ask community members what they need from Albany, and to better understand the resources that are needed to accurately reflect community needs. The project will use a new and innovative app, Reach, that brings organizing and community outreach tools directly to neighbors.

The outreach is slated to start at 10:30 a.m., today, July 18 at the Roosevelt Avenue – Jackson Heights Subway Station in Jackson Heights.

Addabbo Announces Metrocard Van Coming To Forest Hills

State Sen. Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr.

State Sen. Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr. (D-Howard Beach, Ozone Park, Woodhaven, Glendale, Middle Village, Maspeth, parts of South Ozone Park, Ridgewood, Woodside, The Rockaways) announced yesterday that the MetroCard Van will make two appearances in his district later this month.

Many neighborhoods across the Senator’s district do not have a subway station, the main places where commuters can purchase and add money to their MetroCards. The MetroCard Van gives residents an opportunity to take care of their MetroCard needs at a location convenient for them.

“It is unfortunate that there are still a great number of neighborhoods, in Queens especially, that are underserved by public transportation and lack any subway stops, which are oftentimes the only places where MetroCard kiosks are located,” Addabbo said. “For those who live in these neighborhoods, or for people who only use the bus as part of their daily commutes, it is difficult to find a place to buy and refill their MetroCards. In addition, elderly or disabled residents may not be able to travel to get a MetroCard. The MetroCard Van brings these services directly to the residents of my district and offers another outlet for people to conveniently take care of their MetroCard needs.”

The Metrocard Van is slated to make its first stop from 10 a.m. to 12 noon, Wednesday, July 31 at the Maspeth Federal Savings Bank, 101-09 Metropolitan Avenue in Forest Hills. It will then relocate from 1-3 p.m. to the Stop & Shop parking lot, 64-66 Myrtle Avenue in Glendale. For more information about the event and future locations, contact Addabbo’s Howard Beach office at 718-738-1111.
