Weprin Endorses Cuomo’s Proposal to Update Penn Station

Assemblymember David Weprin

Governor Andrew Cuomo unveiled the 30th proposal of his 2020 State of the State: creating the Empire Station Complex – a 21st-century transit complex on Manhattan’s West Side. During a speech at the Association for a Better New York, the Governor announced the plan to transform the existing Penn Station site.

Assembly Member David Weprin (D-Jamaica, Richmond Hill) said, “The Empire State has already taken unprecedented steps to expand New York City’s transportation capacity through initiatives like the Moynihan Train Hall project and East Side Access, and Empire Station will move the needle even further forward by envisioning Penn Station’s expansion as a 21st Century business-transit district. I applaud Governor Cuomo’s foresight and vision in proposing this expansion, which will ensure the city remains at the forefront of global commerce in the future. The Governor’s administration has executed tremendous infrastructure accomplishments during my time in the legislature and I am confident this one will succeed as well.”

The plan calls to integrate the soon-to-be-completed Moynihan Train Hall and acquire the block south of Penn Station to create an expanded, remodeled and interconnected train and subway complex. Twenty-seven New York City leaders and elected officials have already endorsed the Governor’s proposal.

Addabbo Holds E-Waste Recycling Event in Ridgewood

State Senator Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr.

State Senator Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr. (D-Howard Beach, Ozone Park, Woodhaven, Glendale, Middle Village, Maspeth, parts of South Ozone Park, Ridgewood, Woodside, The Rockaways) has once again partnered with the Lower East Side Ecology Center, along with the Friends of Rosemary’s Playground and the Department of Parks and Recreation, to bring an e-waste recycling event to Ridgewood this winter.

“I love having these e-waste recycling events throughout the district, because it gives my constituents an easy way to recycle their electronics at a central location right in their own neighborhood,” Addabbo said. “With sanitation laws seemingly always changing, it can be confusing for constituents to know what can legally be thrown out with your curbside recycling. So if you got some new electronics over the holiday season and need a place to get rid of your old ones, come down to Rosemary’s Playground and take part in this great event.”

Electronics accepted at the event include working and non-working computers, monitors, printers and scanners, keyboards, mice, cables, TVs, VCRs and DVD players, phones, audio/visual equipment, cell phones and PDA’s.

The recycling event will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 25, at Rosemary’s Playground in Ridgewood. For more information, call Senator Addabbo’s office at 718-738-1111.
